Wealthy hunters are paying to be able to hunt rare PS5s in the wild, shoot them, and then display the remains on their walls.
Several photographs leaked onto the internet showing rich men holding big guns, possibly to compensate for something, all surrounding a PS5 that had been shot.
Then people who had witnessed the activity actually taking place started to come forward.
“I was having a Big Mac on the High Street,” explained Stewart James, who saw a PS5 hunt last week.
“All of a sudden, a Range Rover full of really inadequate-looking men who were about 5-foot or so screeched to a halt outside PC World.
“They jumped out and then this tough, cynical looking man aimed a gun at the shop window, handed it to one of the inadequate men. He fired, paused and then they all did this weird braying cheering laugh. The tough one then went into PC World and came out holding a PS5 that was smoking a little and had a hole through it.
“It was pretty sick, the PS5 wasn’t doing any harm and they just shot it for a laugh.”
Similar scenes are taking place across the country. In Chelmsford, trophy hunters stalked a PS5 all the way through the High Chelmer Shopping Centre before shooting it. In Brighton, an old PS3, a Switch and several games were destroyed has hunters tried to shoot a PS5 in the Game store.
Kelly Grace is a games blogger. She called on the government to take action.
“This bizarre, cruel practice should be banned immediately,” she said.
“PS5s in the wild are extremely rare, and allowing rich pricks to hunt them could see these beautiful consoles become extinct.
“And anyone who’s seen Demon Souls running at 60 fps knows just what a shame that would be.”

Real Sylvester Stallone stood in Madame Tussauds for five years after mix-up
Sylvester Stallone’s agent has apologised for a mix-up which saw the real actor being left in Madame Tussauds and the waxwork flown back to America five years ago.
The error occurred in 2012 during the actor’s visit to London to attend the premiere of The Expendables 2, during which he visited the world famous display of waxworks, leading to the awkward mistake.
His agent Owen Vaughan told reporters “When we returned from London a few years ago, I had thought that something wasn’t quite as it should be, as Sylvester seemed more subdued than normal. But as he usually only communicates in neanderthal grunts I wasn’t too concerned.”
He continued “And any suspicions I had were allayed when two years ago he was awarded the Golden Globe for reprising his role at Rocky Balboa in ‘Creed’, which also saw him nominated for an Academy Award. This waxwork of himself has been successfully cast and subsequently starred in a number of blockbusters, so how was I to know?”
The error only came to light when staff at the tourist attraction tried to move the figure of Mr Stallone and were stunned when he reportedly jumped and mumbled “Hey, any of you guys know where my agent went? He said he’d come back to pick me up later and it feels like it’s been ages.”
Mr Vaughan concluded “In my defence, he has always looked like a waxwork that has been stood near a hot lamp for too long.”
“Anyone could have made that mistake.”
The waxwork has now been returned to Madame Tussauds and Sylvester Stallone is currently auditioning for new roles, although it remains to be seen whether he will continue the success that his wax double has enjoyed over the last four years.
