Denzel Washington and Timothée Chalamet eying Minder reboot

Denzel Washington and Timothée Chalamet are said to be in talks to reboot Thursday evening eighties Dad classic Minder.

Washington has always considered George Cole’s performance as Arthur Daley to be one of the great screen portrayals and has referenced it countless times as a major influence on his work as an actor.

He first mooted the idea of a Minder reboot in 1996, with him taking the Terry McCann role and his Crimson Tide colleague Quentin Tarantino taking writing duties. Sadly, there was little interest in a Minder reboot so soon after the original.

Now, though, he’s old enough to take on the role of Arthur, and he’s got the Hollywood clout to get the project off the ground.

Chalamet is said to be keen to get back to something gritty and realistic after his work in Dune.

The current point of discussion is said to be the format of the show.

“Denzel wants to stay true to the original and set the reboot in the seamier areas of London,” said a studio insider.

“He’s been working on his cockney accent and has bought a number of sheepskin coats to get the look right.

“Timothée and the producers want to set it in modern day Detroit with a backdrop of the opioid crisis. Bring in Denis Villeneuve as producer, and make this new Minder a Sicario-esque take on the adventures of Terry and Arthur with some realistic and shocking sex and violence.”

Before any work on the potential Minder reboot begins though, Chalamet is set to go back to the eighties next as Jacko in his big-screen reboot of Brush Stokes.
