Denis Villeneuve to ‘revisit’ Blade Runner world for giant robot dinosaur story

Denis Villeneuve has revealed that he plans to return to the world he explored in Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner 2049 won plaudits for its complex and meditative exploration of humanity in the future, the new film will be a story about giant robot dinosaurs.

“I love the dark, beautiful and complex world of the Blade Runners,” said Villeneuve.

“However, I never felt the stakes in the previous films were high enough. I mean, all the Blade Runners have to do is hunt down a few robot men. That’s easy,

“For this film, we have giant robot dinosaurs! That will be a challenge for even the most experienced Blade Runner.”

The film opens in Los Angeles, where it’s raining, people are going about their business – buying umbrellas, wondering how Atari got so big again – when all of sudden giant robot dinosaurs appear and trample all over everyone causing mayhem with their fiery breath.

A Blade Runner is sent to hunt them down.

However, plot of a man hunting down giant robot dinosaurs is just a method for Villeneuve to explore more complex themes.

“What are the giant robot dinosaurs? Where do they come from? Is the Blade Runner a giant robot dinosaur?”

The thought-provoking new story is currently in development, but should it prove successful, Villeneuve has further plans for the Blade Runner world.
