A new trailer has for forthcoming Star Wars film Rise of Skywalker has fuelled speculation that Rey will turn to the Dark side.
The trailer depicted the popular character, played by Daisy Ridley, stealing some sweets from a local space-supermarket and dropping the sweet wrappers on the floor, even though a space-bin was clearly in view.
She is later seen smoking a cigarette and telling a passing Jedi night to ‘nob off you robe-y nob.’
“I think that it’s clear, Rey has gone over to the Dark side,” said Bank of England chief Mark Carney, who had hastily convened a press conference to discuss the trailer.
“This is a sad day for all fans of Star Wars and, as such, I will be closing the Bank of England early today to allow everyone to come to terms with the news.”
However other fans were in disagreement.
“I think it’s too early to jump to conclusions,” said Sky Sports football pundit Gary Neville.
“Surely it’s more likely that she’s just pretending to go over to Dark Side as part of a trap.
“You know, if Kylo Ren hears that Rey has been stealing sweets and dropping litter he might think – ‘aha, she’s totally bad now and I can recruit her to my dark side’ – so then Rey can get close to him and gather evidence to prosecute him in a space-trial or something
“Let’s just calm down wait and see.”
It seems that calming down and waiting and seeing is the last thing on many Star Wars fans’ minds though, as already a petition has been set up to rewrite Rise of Skywalker keeping Rey as a hero, along with another petition to actually stick to the ‘Dark Rey’ plans and a third one to replace the Star Wars theme with Cher’s iconic 1998 hit – Believe.
