Acting legend Daniel Day-Lewis has announced that he is to come out of retirement to star in a reboot of the eighties classic Porky’s.
“How can you turn that down? It’s Porky’s!” laughed the My Left Foot star.
“I mean, I have been tremendously lucky with my career. I’ve had some wonderful roles – a mohican and a milkshake enthusiast amongst so many. But Porky’s is something on a different scale. It’s an actor’s dream.”
Day-Lewis was clearly thrilled with exactly what his role will be in the new version of the film.
“Well, yes, I will be playing Porky himself, but not only that, I will also be playing Porky’s brother – the sheriff. Literally two of the finest roles in cinema history.”
Although it was the acting challenge that initially appealed, there were other aspects of the role that tempted the three-time Oscar winner back in front of the camera.
“Ah, yes, well, to be clear, just the chance to play Porky was enough, but when I saw the script? Well, there will be an awful lot of naked ladies and there is more than one scene where I’ll get to see everything, and I do mean everything. How could I turn that down!”
Although he’s happy to return for Porky’s, Day-Lewis was adamant that this didn’t spell the end of his retirement.
“No, I am still retired. This is just a one-off…unless, of course, they bring back Herbie. The chance to act alongside a sentient Volkswagen? I can’t turn that down.”
