The new Lord of the RingsTV series is to be a modern retelling of the classic tale that will be heavily influenced by hip hop culture.
The show will be titled Lord of the Rings, Yo and will begin in Los Angeles.
MC Frodo and DJ Samwise the Funky are spinning some fierce beats at a beach party when a wise old wizard from the golden age of rap, played, it is rumoured, by Grandmaster Flash or Rakim, pulls them aside, thrusts a thumbstick containing a new album called ‘The Ring’ into their hands and tells them to take it to Mountdoom records in New York.
The TV series will go on to show their journey and the companions they meet along the way including Merry-T, The Notorious P. I. P., and an old British eighties metal dude called ‘Arry Aragorn.
Together they will become known as A Fellowship Called Quest.
“The problem with Lord of the Rings is that it is neither def nor fresh,” explained producer Stewart James.
“There is very little breakdancing and nobody calls anyone a ‘bitch-ass ho.’
“So, you know, it’s still great, but it’s just a bit old fashioned. It’s crying out for a hip hop twist.”
It is understood that Amazon have so much confidence in Lord of the Rings, Yo that they have commissioned hip hop updates of Hardy’s The Mayor of Casterbridge and Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night to follow in the next few years.
