Activision have apologised for the brutal slaughter of 46 sims when a Call of Duty multiplayer session was mistakenly assigned to a Sims town.
The game saw 150 soldiers descend on the town with a goal of shooting everyone else on the map to be the last person standing and win the match.
Tragically, a number of sims who players believed to be part of the game were shot dead. These included a family of vampires, a surgeon who was a part time rock star, and a nice cat called Muffy.
“We cannot express how sorry we are for this tragic incident,” said Activision representative Stewart James.
“I can’t imagine how frightening it must have been to just be a Sim, going to the park to meet another Sim and eat a hot-dog before enjoying some woo-hoo in the bushes, only to have a heavily-armed soldier, grizzled beyond recognition, shoot you dead with some of the most exciting weaponry in gaming.”
Kelly Grace, who had cultivated the Sims town that suffered the massacre, was shaken by events.
“I used to have a nice little community of Sims, now I’ve got a blood-soaked ghost town. I’ve got dead Sims and Call of Duty soldiers everywhere.
“I’d been building this town for years and it was a lovely community with some fantastic nightlife and everyone had a cat and/or dog. Now I’m going to have to create a whole new town of Sims just to clean up the old town of dead Sims.
“To be honest, that’s not the sort of peaceful escapism I look for in The Sims.”
However, some of the Call of Duty players had a different take on events.
“That was awesome,” said one.
“Can we do it on Animal Crossing next?”
