John Krasinski has given some details of A Bland Tasting Food Place, the sequel to A Quiet Place, that he is currently in the process of writing.
“It’s a bit different, this time,” he chuckled.
“We’re in a different part of the world, and the monsters here have different abilities, so rather than use sound to attack, this version of the monsters use strong-flavoured food to attack.”
Although, at first glance, the premise seems a less scary prospect than the original, Krasinski went on to explain that there is a more insidious horror at work here.
“Okay, so we open at a typical office and it’s lunchtime so we see people open their lunchboxes and there’s ham sandwiches, plain quiches, undressed salads, that sort of thing.
“But then, one guy opens his lunchbox and there’s an onion bahji and a keema naan.
“On the other side of the office, a woman smells the bahji spices and looks round. The man picks up the bahji. The woman stands up. He brings the bahji to his mouth. She’s running a cross the office now. Other people are looking round like ‘what’s going on.’
“He bites into the bahji and immediately a giant monster jumps through the office window and eats him.”
The terrifying premise will play on humankind’s fear of a life spent eating unspiced food with little to no garlic and anchovies. Like Britain in the 1950s.
If successful, it is expected that Krasinski could follow up A Bland Tasting Food Place with A Muted Palate Place and An Unflatulent Place.
