The full cast of Robert Egger’s new film The Northman has been revealed and includes Willem Defoe, leading many to assume a possible crossover with Aquaman in which Defoe plays Vulko.
“I think the crucial thing is that no one has definitively said that there won’t be a Northman/Aquaman crossover here,” said film blogger Kelly Grace.
“Without that, I think it’s fair to assume that there will be a crossover. Both films star Willem Defoe, in Aquaman he’s Vulko, in The Northman, we don’t yet know his name, which makes most people think that he is playing Vulko and they just don’t want to give anything away yet.”
If, as seems likely, The Northman does crossover with Aquaman, then that makes it part of the DC Cinematic Universe which could mean that we see the Northman fight alongside Batman and Superman in future films.
Little is known about The Northman, but now it is clearly part of the DCCU, we can assume The Northman, played by Alexander Skarsgard, is a superhero with all the powers of someone who lives in the North and has a secret ‘civilian’ alter-ego by the name of Amleth who is a mild-mannered 10th Century Icelandic Viking.
However, whilst it does seem likely that The Northman crosses over with the DCCU. Some people are speculating that the presence of Willem Defoe indicates an even bigger crossover.
“Well, you’ve got to ask yourself what else Willem Defoe was in,” said film journalist Stewart James.
“Platoon – so, I suspect that The Northman actually crosses over with both Aquaman and Platoon, making it likely that Charlie Sheen’s Chris from Platoon is joining the Justice League.
