A new sequel novel to the 1993 classic Halloween film Nightmare Before Christmas has been announced and is set to contain the dramatic twist that Oogie Boogie is, in fact, Santa Claus’ father!
“I’ll admit, we’ve taken some inspiration from Empire Strikes Back,” explained writer Shea Earnshaw.
It is understood that, towards the climax of the book, Santa and Oogie Boogie are locked in a dramatic battle when Oogie Boogie says that Santa’s father would want Santa to be part of his plans. Santa accuses Oogie Boogie of killing his father, to which Oogie Boogie retorts – ‘No, Santa, I am your father.’
“I’ll be honest. Not what I’d have gone for initially,” continued Earnshaw.
“I was pushing for a story where an android travels back in time to prevent another android, who’s shapeshifted into the form of Oogie Boogie, from killing Santa.
“Thing is, the guys at Disney, they love Star Wars, so, you know, they were pretty keen on this whole father/son thing going on. We’ve got a lightsabre battle in there as well, and the opening chapter where Oogie Boogie’s stormtroopers attack Jack and Sally’s plucky rebels on an ice planet probably lifts a little bit too much from the trilogy.
“I think the whole thing stands up pretty well though. Fans of the original film should get a real kick out of it.”
Should the novel prove successful, then another sequel novel is planned in which Jack, Sally, the Mayor and Santa travel to a planet of teddy bears and try and blow up a huge space station set to obliterate the entire Holiday World.
