“This is the darkest Batman yet.” New Batman trailer just a black screen.

A new Batman trailer has been released which appears to be two minutes of a black screen with someone mumbling angrily.

“This is a much darker version of Batman. I make no apologies for that,” explained director Matt Reeves.

“I mean, of course it’s a much darker version of Batman. Of course. Any new version of Batman has to be a darker version of Batman, I mean what are you going to do? Just go ‘no, it’s actually quite a wholesome version of Batman. He’s got a girlfriend and a bread-maker and he likes listening to 80s pop.’ That’s just not what you do.”

However, the problem Reeves found was that it’s quite hard to make a darker Batman film.

“Well, yeah, Chris Nolan did lay down a bit of a challenge there. Batman ostracises his lifelong friend and butler, then dies. That’s pretty dark right there.

“So, how do we make it darker? Make Batman a serial killer? A vampire? That becomes a different character. Then our DP had an idea of turning the brightness down, so we tried that and the movie got a lot darker.

“Then, we turned the brightness completely off and we’d got it. It was the darkest version of Batman anyone had ever put on film.”

Whilst this may be the darkest yet version of Batman ever committed to film, Reeves is confident that he’ll be able to top it for the sequel.

“We’ve got plans to make that even darker. We just need to find a way to film in a black hole…”
