New Release of The Seventh Seal To Feature Bergman’s Preferred Happy Ending

A new release of arthouse classic The Seventh Seal will be released and, for the first time, will feature director Ingmar Bergman’s preferred happy ending.

Instead of the familiar image of the knight Antonius Block and his companions being brought to their death by the figure of death, the film will now end with Death declaring the famous chess game a stalemate and then he, Block, his squire Jöns, and the villagers have a nice party together with plenty of cake, ale and an incongruous yet intriguing rock and roll group playing music specially composed by Bergman.

“The ending was actually found behind the sofa in the Bergman Estate on Fårö,” explained Stewart James, an expert on the famous director.

“The estate is now a creative meeting place, run by the Bergman Estate Foundation, and a group of guys who were working there found some boxes of film stacked up behind the sofa that contained, amongst other footage, the happy ending from The Seventh Seal.”

It is the rock and roll music that has provoked the most interest, with footage of an unknown band playing the song Rockin’ Rock and Roll which features the couplet ‘I rock, and you roll, like a frog, and a mole.’

“We had an idea that Bergman had dabbled with rock and roll music but this is the only footage we have of one of his songs being played, and what do the frog and mole represent? We may never know.”

Other footage discovered behind the sofa, which may also see release is a hilarious flatulence scene cut from Persona, and an epic jocks and nerds battle from Wild Strawberries.
