There were some raised eyebrows at the news that the incoming remake of Stephen King’s Pet Cemetery will be a musical.
“Okay, think about it,” said new director Kevin Kolsch
“Greatest Showman was huge. Everyone went nuts for it, right? Same thing with It. So, people love musicals and people love Stephen King. What’s the obvious thing to do? Make a musical of a Stephen King story. People are going to eat it up.”
“Originally, we thought about doing a musical of Carrie, but that would be nuts. No way that could ever work.
“So, we settled on Pet Cemetery instead because nothing says musical good times like reanimated pet corpses doing a little dance. “
The film will open in the titular Pet Cemetery with a spectacular scene of all the pets coming back to life and performing a complex dance routine to a medley of songs from the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album.
“Yeah, we’ve got a bunch of horrifying and toe-tapping set pieces. The pet cat comes back to life and sings Lovecats on the barn roof and the little zombie boy kills the old guy while doing an adorable tap dance to The Kids Are Alright.
“Seriously, keep an eye out for that routine at next year’s Oscars.”
If the musical Pet Cemetery proves successful, Mr Kolsch has plans for an adaptation of Stephen King’s Tommyknockers on roller skates.
