Paddington in Peru to explore the difficulties of building a London mainline station in South America

Further details have emerged about the eagerly awaited Paddington in Peru, including the basic plot, which consists of an attempt to build a mainline London station in South America.

“Yes, I recognise this is a departure from previous Paddington titles,” explained producer Stewart James.

“Originally, we were planning on doing a charming story about that bear going home to Peru to visit his family and comically falling over a lot. I mean, it would have been fine if winning family comedies with a big heart are your sort of thing.

“But we couldn’t get away from this image of a mainline London station, except it’s in the jungles of South America. We wanted to tell that story. Who built it? Why? Is the London Underground available? Would you have to change to get to Manchester or would it go direct?”

The newly released teaser trailer opens in the offices of Network Rail, who maintain Britain’s railway infrastructure. A young executive is nervously waiting outside a meeting room. He is called in to find all the managers of the railway waiting for him. He tells them that he has an idea to save money – ‘The biggest cost with Paddington Station is the land rent. I mean, it’s in the centre of London, it’s crazy expensive. We should knock it down and build it somewhere cheaper…like Peru.’

“It’s a great hook, right?” continued Stewart, “building Paddington Station in South America? It’s like Fitzcarraldo, only with Traveller’s Friend cafes and WH Smiths.”

Producers have confirmed that the film will not feature any bears, as they would likely be a hinderance with the construction of a large London station, potentially getting into a variety of amusing slapstick situations like falling into some cement or getting stuck in a bucket, which would be unhelpful.
