A new trailer has seemingly revealed that forthcoming Martin Scorsese film The Irishman is a biopic of legendary singer Chris de Burgh.
The trailer featured Joe Pesci as de Burgh singing A Spaceman came Travelling on a meticulously recreated seventies Top of the Pops Christmas special .
Up until the trailer, little had been known about the Goodfellas director’s latest effort but it is now confirmed that it will be a life story of de Burgh with Pesci in the starring role, Harvey Keitel as his manager and Robert DeNiro in a potentially Oscar-winning supporting role as the Lady in Red.
“I’ve always loved the music of Chris de Burgh,” explained Scorsese.
“Don’t Pay The Ferryman? I wanted that to be the final song on Goodfellas, but the suits were insistent on My Way.
“So, to actually tell the great man’s story from his early days to the height of his fame with Lady in Red? That was something I couldn’t turn down.”
It was also a prospect that could bring acting legend Joe Pesci out of retirement.
“Two things I always said I’d act again for,” said the Home Alone star.
“A My Cousin Vinny sequel or a Chris de Burgh biopic, so when Marty offered me the part, I said yes right away.”
It is expected that, should the film be the success many are predicting, it could become the first in a trilogy of Scorsese Irish crooner films with biopic of Dana and Daniel O’Donnell filmed back-to-back.
