New adaptation of the sort of story Stephen King might have written coming soon

A new adaptation of the sort of story that Stephen King might have written has been announced.

The Maine Shine has nothing whatsoever to do with Stephen King, but is definitely the sort of thing you could imagine him having written.

It tells the story of Jesse, a middle-aged recovering alcoholic and writer who discovers his house has been built by ancient space aliens to protect an old Indian pet cemetery from a thousand-year-old circus clown called Dollardumb.

The story features a number of terrifying set-pieces and incredible character insight before climaxing in what seems to be a flash of heavenly light that defeats the clown in way that is never really properly explained.

“It’s definitely something you’d imagine Stephen King would have written,” explained producer Stewart James.

“You know – Maine, an old clown, a writer, a crappy half-assed ending.”

James went on to explain why he hadn’t chosen to simply adapt an actual Stephen King book.

“Yeah, they’d all been done. In some cases twice. We went through everything – someone had even done Tommyknockers.

“We had this old shopping list he’d written, and we were just putting together a script when we found out someone had adapted that for TV in the late nineties with Jennifer Grey.

“So, you know, instead of an adaptation of a Stephen King story, we’re doing an adaptation of the sort of story Stephen King might have written instead.”

The Maine Shine or, to give it its full title, The Maine Shine: The Sort of Story Stephen King Might Have Written will be released next year and, if successful, will be followed up by another adaptation of the sort of story Stephen King might have done about a writer and a telekinetic girl after the world has succumbed to a terrible disease.
