Heat sequel sees Neil McCauley take Vincent Hanna to the future to save his kids

The newly announced Heat sequel will see Neil McCauley take Vincent Hanna into the future to help him protect his kids.

“It’s a hell of a hook. Vincent is just going about his day, shouting about big asses and how much he likes his TV then, all of a sudden, Neil McCauley appears at his front door,” explains director Michael Mann.

“He’s all dressed in a futuristic silver space suit and he just goes ‘Vincent, the Heat’s around the corner and we’ve got to walk out in thirty seconds flat to go to the future and save your kids’.”

The film will see the old rivals forced to work together as they travel to the future and try to stop Vincent’s kids from going off the rails into a life of crime and doing complicated heists in future LA.

One question that fans will ask though is how Neil can still be alive after clearly dying at the airport in the original film.

“Yeah, that’s all explained,” confirmed Mann.

“After Vincent walks away from the dead Neil at the airport, Neil teleports in from the future. He takes his own dead body back to the future where scientists now have the technology to cure death. After being cured, then all Neil needs to do is remember to return to the airport in the past and pick up his body.”

Although the film has more of a science fiction/adventure feel, there are some nods to the classic original film as will, particularly the iconic coffee shop scene.

“Oh yeah, totally,” laughs Mann,

“When Neil first appears, Vincent says ‘what’d ya say I but you a cup of coffee?’ And Neil just goes ‘coffee? We’re we’re going we don’t need coffee’.”
