There were accusations of corruption pointed at Empire magazine as it was announced that their 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time poll wasn’t topped by Ever Decreasing Circles.
Despite being clearly the best TV show ever made, the eighties Richard Briars classic didn’t feature at all, and the poll was instead was topped by Breaking Bad, a load of shouty American nonsense about drugs and being unpleasant to each other.
“It must have been a fix, it’s literally the only explanation for Ever Decreasing Circles not being at number one,” explained Stewart James, a TV blogger.
“I guess they’ve been got to by one of the big US TV companies who didn’t like the fact that, despite their huge budgets and big star names, have never managed to create anything better than a charming sitcom about Richard Briars getting cross with Peter Egan.
Mr James went on to claim this was just the latest in a long-running series of what appeared to be ‘fixed’ Empire polls.
“I’ve read all their film polls, and not once has the Dad’s Army film even featured, and back in the nineties they had a sexiest movie star poll and John Nettles didn’t even place. I mean, okay, he was mainly a TV star, but come on! No sexy Bergerac?
“There’s something going on there.”
It is understood Mr James intends to run an alternative 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time poll himself that will put Ever Decreasing Circles in its rightful number one slot regardless of who people vote for.”
