The Martian

Matt Damon goes to Mars. His crew leave him there because he’s not Ben Affleck. He grows a potato and gets terribly excited. His crew feel bad about leaving him on Mars so go back to get him again and he leaves his potatoes there.

Trivia

The film was meticulously researched, with Ridley Scott and other members of the team travelling to Mars and growing a potato to understand the process.

Matt Damon was something of a practical joker on set, once doing a poo in a bin and leaving it in Sean Bean’s trailer.

Despite being largely set on Mars, and called ‘The Martian,’ no actual Martians are seen in the film. This is because they are very shy.

A potential sequel will see Matt Damon return to Mars to try and grow a carrot.

Bloopers

In several scenes featuring Matt Damaon’s makeshift Martian greenhouse, a 1985 Ford Escort XR3i can be seen parked outside.

On the return trip to Mars, the crew appear to go the wrong way, clearly turning left at the Moon instead of right.
