Stand by Me

Wesley Crusher and his friends go for a walk to look at a dead man. One of them tells a story about eating pie. Kiefer Sutherland is quite menacing and might turn into a vampire, but doesn’t. They look at the dead body and go home again. Richard Dreyfuss keeps saying that it’s all very profound and changes them forever, so I guess it’s all very profound and changes them forever.

Trivia

The character of Wesley Crusher would go on to become some sort of weird space-god. You don’t really get a sense of that in this film though.

The body at the heart of the story was played by none other than Human League frontman Phil Oakey.

The film is famously based on a novella by James Joyce

The four kids got on so well during filming that they formed a band called INXS who had several hit records in the eighties and nineties.

Bloopers

During the famous train tracks scene, if you look closely, you can see that it isn’t Wesley Crusher running to escape the train but top British sprinter Linford Christie who was standing in for the young Ensign.
