Speed

Genius decides that the simplest way to get a fortune is to put a bomb on a bus and make Sandra Bullock drive everyone about for a bit. If I was that smart, I’d just set up a hedge fund or something. Sandra Bullock drives the bus around for a bit. Keanu does some very impressive shouting, then uses his Matrix powers to levitate the bus over a gap on a bridge. I forget how it ends, maybe Sandra’s still driving the bus?

Trivia

Because there was a bomb on the bus, the actors had to perform on a reconstruction of the bus that was kept at least 500 metres away from the actual bus at all times.

The Jack Traven role was originally written for popular wizard Paul Daniels, but after he turned the role down, it went to Keanu Reeves.

A sequel in which the bus returns to stalk Jack through the LA mountains was planned but abandoned.

Sandra Bullock was pregnant when filming, and when the bus magically jumped a gap in the road she gave birth to her first son – Justin Bieber.

Bloopers

Despite the bus having to travel at over 50 miles per hour, scientists have estimated that in two shots the speed of the bus drops to 49 miles per hour.

When Jack attempts to board the bus, it’s possible to briefly catch a glimpse of the futility and pointlessness of life.
