Beverley Hills Cop

Shouty policeman wears big cargo pants and fails to sell the baddies cigarettes, so goes to Beverly’s Hill and ruins the buffet at the Haro club. He makes friends with everyone by shouting at them, does some funny voices and sorts everything out. Sadly, because he was a black star in the eighties, he wasn’t allowed a girlfriend.

Trivia

Beverley Hills, a fictional well-to-do area of Los Angeles, was constructed for the film. The set remains standing, and actually now houses many quite well-to-do-people.

The distinctive theme tune ‘Axel F’ was composed in 1690 by English composer Henry Purcell.

Prior to the film’s release, star Eddie Murphy was best known as a Jockey in British flat racing, and actually won The Derby in 1981.

It was originally planned as a star vehicle for James Stewart but, at 76, was far too old to do it.

Bloopers

Whilst staking out Victor Maitland’s House, Axel can be clearly scene wearing a full clown suit and make-up.

Quotes

“Hey, you can stick your banana up my tailpipe anytime.”
