The latest iteration in EA’s popular FC series of games will, for the first time, introduce a barbarian and wizard class to fight alongside its traditional classes of striker, defender, and goalkeeper.
“Many years ago, we hit on what we believed was the ideal balance of classes for the most exciting and challenging game of football,” explained Barry Fifa, the producer of the game.
“Looking back, that was clearly insane. Strikers, defenders and goalkeepers are all fine, however, if you introduce a barbarian with a giant club and a wizard who has dominion over the forces of nature then football becomes so much more fun.”
The barbarian class of footballer is designed to be played right at the front of the team, just ahead of the strikers. They can use their huge club battle through the opposing team’s defence and clear the way for the forward players.
The wizard is a more defensive, controlling class. They are best played in the centre of the team and cast spells that can turn opposing players into frogs, or change the pitch into water. They are, however, physically quite vulnerable so should always be protected by sturdy midfielders like Declan Rice.
“We’re hugely excited about these changes. Football has always been a fun and exciting sport. By integrating these new classes we think we’re going to take it to the next level.”
It is expected that EA are still trialing new classes for forthcoming iterations of FC, and players can looking forward to a bard class, who can use their ‘sing’ power to charm players from the opposing team to briefly play for the bard, and the thief class, who will be able to go round and steal opposing players’ Beats headphones and Lamborghinis to unsettle them.
