“Terrible president. The worst” – Donald Trump slams President Bartlet

New president Donald Trump used his inauguration speech to slam fictional president Josiah Bartlet, who governed for two terms in the TV drama The West Wing.

“President Bartlett was a terrible president. The worst this country has had,” said Mr Trump.

“They say he negotiated a peace settlement between Isreal and Palestine. That didn’t work. Appointed a female Chief Justice. She’s not there anymore. She’s not there. His social security reform plan has failed as we’re spending more than ever on social security and I’ll stop that. I will.

“That President made America worse. Much worse.”

He singled out the regular appearance of President Bartlett on television for particular criticism.

“And, you know, he was on TV so much. He really was. I like TV, I do. But this guy, he was always on TV. Every week, for 23, 24 weeks a year, he was on the TV. Perhaps if he’d spent less time on TV and more time working, he wouldn’t have done so much damage.”

Finally he promised not to make the same mistake as Mr Bartlet with regard to his own staff.

“One of my guys leaks security information. He’s going to jail. For a long time. I’m not pardoning anyone. What Toby did was bad. Very bad.”

He did make a point later in the speech to praise fictional president James Marshall as played by Harrison Ford in James Marshall in Air Force One.

“He threw that terrorist right off the plane. Good President. Very good president.”
