After the success of pitting good guys against good in the Marvel Comics Universe, Disney have extended the Civil War theme to their Pixar compatriots.
Floppy cowboy doll Woody will take on Buzz Lightyear in the upcoming movie where they come to blows deciding whether they should come out to children as being alive or not.
Director John-Brad Lasseter-Bird explains, “‘Outers’ Woody, Rex the Tyrannosaurus and Mr Potato-Head will do plastic battle against Buzz, Barbie and that dog with the slinky in the middle who strongly believe they should remain inanimate around youngsters.
“Whereas Woody’s joints can no longer take just falling to ground when one of them walks into the room, and he wants to stop smashing the back of his head on the laminate.
“The toy soldiers will be split down the middle, with all the left halves supporting Woody and the right halves on Team Buzz. The aliens have neglected to take either side; their faith remaining entirely on Team Claw.
“Tensions will be further increased as Woody’s other half, Beau Peep, takes Buzz’s side in the arguments, with their relationship already fraught, having been together for 20 years.
“As per the MCU, a number of completely unexpected characters will appear in the movie, including a diecast version of Lightning McQueen from the Cars series and even an action figure of Captain America himself, parodying the events of his own movie, as the universe literally bends back inwards on itself.
“That was a literal mindbend, just to sort out the licensing commitments, let me tell you.”
A barrage of related merchandise and clothing will be released to milk the conflict further.
Toy Story: Civil War opens in the fall.
