A surprise sequel to 1957’s argument classic 12 Angry Men could feature up to 100 angry men, according to producers.
“Look, 12 angry men might have been enough angry men back in 1957 but this is 2024, people want to see more angry men. Many more,” explained producer Harry Stewart.
Initially, the plan was for the sequel to be 13 Angry Men.
“Yeah, we had a treatment for a sequel that took place a day after the court case in the first picture. An angry guy turns up, and so they bring back the original angry men and they all have another argument. But 13 angry men? What’s that? That’s nothing. People see 13 angry men on the subway going to work. No, if we’re going to make a sequel to this classic picture then we’ve got to go bigger, much bigger.”
Stewart fired the writer who’d developed the sequel treatment and brought in a new team with an instruction to ‘let rip!’
“Those guys did good. Really good. We got so many more angry men now. Is it a hundred? Well, you’ll have to wait and see. But what I can tell you is that there’s a lot, and they’re angry. I mean, really angry. They throw over tables, smash windows, we’ve even got some rioting going on. This is a real sequel with a whole load of really, really angry men.”
If the film is as successful as seems likely, Stewart already has plans for further sequels Twenty-Two Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and The Magnificent Thirty Nine.
