Shawshank Redemption Director’s Cut to reintroduce CGI Jabba the Hutt scenes

A new Director’s Cut of cosy prison favourite Shawshank Redemption has been announced that will finally include the legendary Jabba the Hutt scenes.

“Jabba the Hutt was meant to be the top criminal in Shawshank, the prisoner everyone defers to,” explained director Frank Darabont.

“Although probably not the toughest of all the prisoners, his crimes across the galaxy would have made him by far the most notorious. Whilst the warder runs Shawshank, it would have been Jabba that maintains control over the other men.”

In the original Stephen King story, Jabba is caught during a rare visit to Earth to create a smuggling network for alcohol, death sticks and fatty food. All of which is prohibited across the wider galaxy.

“It was that real cool Stephen King flourish, to have an alien at the heart of a 1950s prison system,” continued Darabont.

“But we didn’t have the budget for it so Jabba was left out and it became a real conventional prison story.”

The new director’s cut came about after conversations with legendary Star Wars director George Lucas.

“I was trying to decide what film to direct next and he sort of shrugged and said that directing a film was a real lot of hard work and instead it was much easier to just find a film you’d already made that everyone loved and then just put out a new director’s cut with Jabba the Hutt in.

“Wise man. So we did that.”

If the new director’s cut proves popular then Darabont also plans to release director’s cuts of The Green Mile, The Mist and that one about the cinema, all with new scenes with a CGI Jabba the Hutt.
