New sequel 28 Years Later sees zombie outbreak forgotten and everyone having nice life

Danny Boyle has announced a new sequel to his classics 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

28 Years Later will be set an unspecified number of years after the events of the first two films and sees everyone has pretty much forgotten about the zombie outbreak and is just getting on with their lives.

“It was important to me that I just didn’t just toss off a rehash of the first two films,” explained Boyle.

“So, I thought the best way to really respect the memory of the first two films was to set the next film years afterwards and just make it a drama about people living their lives.”

Boyle went on to explain that there wouldn’t be any zombies in the new film.

“No, like I say, I’m not just rehashing the first two. I want to keep things fresh. Zombies happened in the past and humanity has just moved on.

“There’s this family and the daughter is trying to become an Olympic ice skater. They live in the house next door to Robert Carlyle’s character’s house from the last movie, which is how it all links together.”

If the film proves successful, then Boyle has a plan for a fourth film.

“28 Centuries Later,” he explained.

“Won’t even have humans in it, just some flies living on a post-humanity earth.

“Got to keep things fresh.”
