Tom Cruise does a wheelie and jumps off a swing in stunning new Mission Impossible trailer

A new trailer has revealed some of the impressive stunts that will feature in Mission: Impossible – the Final Reckoning, the latest instalment in the popular franchise.

“Man, it’s out there, it’s crazy. This stuff that Tom [Cruise] is doing in this picture, it’s off-the-scale nuts,” explained Christopher McQuarrie, in an interview to accompany the trailer. 

One of the stunts featured in the trailer involves Cruise’s Ethan Hunt on a pushbike.

“Yeah, this is something else, he’s in a residential street, okay? And he’s cycling along on just an ordinary pushbike and all-of-sudden, he just pulls the front wheel off the ground and cycles along only on the back wheel while holding the front wheel in the air!

“It’s insane! He does an actual wheelie for, like, thirty seconds or so. Crazy. Only Tom Cruise, man.”

However, the wheelie is only the start of what promises to be the most exciting Mission yet. A scene in the local park had the director particularly excited.

“The swing scene. Like, wow! We put a clip of it in the trailer, but the full scene is incredible,” he laughed.

“There’s Tom, and he’s on a swing and he swings it and swings it and it gets really high and then, get this, he jumps off.

“That’s it, he jumps off! And it’s really high! That’s all Tom as well, there’s no stuntman here.”

Mission: Impossible – the Final Reckoning is due in May and it looks like the stunts could be even more spectacular the 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One which famously saw Cruise hold his breath under the water in the bath for ‘ages’ and climb a really tall tree in the garden.
