The Shining

Man goes to live in big, empty hotel with no one but his wife, son and loads of murderous ghosts. He writes experimental novel, becomes best friends with an axe and then decides to murder his family. Tries for a bit, then gets bored and goes to live in the maze instead. Son is some sort of wizard, which doesn’t seem to have any consequence other than to get the chef killed.

Stanley Kubrick famously didn’t like Stephen King’s ‘The Shining’ on which the film was based. He also thought ‘Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less’ by Jeffrey Archer was shit

The Overlook hotel is actually the Travelodge in Chelmsford, that overlooks the flyover

A stickler for authenticity, Kubrick demanded little Danny Lloyd develop psychic powers for his role as Danny Torrence

During the opening scenes, a herd of wildebeest are seen running past the hotel chased by a leopard. Wildebeest and leopards are native to Africa and would not be found in the Rocky Mountains.
